How are music videos made?
Hours of camera footage is taken, yet less than 5 minutes of it will be used for the final music video. All the footage is put onto computer, to edit all the footage that is going to be used for the final video- but while footage is still being taken, normally the artist would lip sync their music so the recorded voice of theirs' can be edited into the music video. Yet you see music videos lasting 3-4 minutes, it can take months for the footage to be taken, places to be hired to shoot, the choreography to be rehearsed.... 3-4 minutes of work can take longer than it seems.
Main companies which show music videos:
- Youtube
- Vevo
- MTV
These are only few of big music producing companies in the world. Even though Youtube was a video sharing company first, but had talks about showing music videos.
Where can you find music videos?
The main sources of finding music videos are Youtube and Vevo, both video sharing sites, though Vevo is more dedicated to show just music videos by nation known artists. If you have a Youtube account yourself, you can "subscibe" to the artist you're listening/watching in a music video to keep up to date on what they're putting on Youtube.
What are the purpose of music videos?
On a business sides' view, making a profit when producing a music video is key and it all comes down to the artists's personality, and whether the audience like them. Probably one of the most successful artists of the last decade was Lady Gaga- she came into the music industry showing who she really is, and I wouldn't say it was her music that made her extremely famous and successful; she showed in life, and in her music videos just how wacky her outfits really are, and the target audience liked the new style to music.
